Oppo's strongest argument is the ultra-wide-angle camera, because the module is currently one of the most powerful in the market. The wide-angle and the normal focal length also offer good image quality: the wide-angle throughout, the normal focal length not at night. With a telephoto, this device would have ended up at the top of the charts. 

 

Wide angle (main camera) – 1.8/5.6 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 26 mm), 50 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 or 50 MP

The main camera can take pictures with both the reduced resolution of 12 MP and the maximum of 50MP. Our rating is based on the pictures with the smaller resolution, since they are ahead in total. 
However, it is worth switching to the maximum resolution in high light: The resolution increases a bit and the signal processing works less aggressively, so the pictures appear more pleasant. However, Oppo does not come close to the quality of the 64MP JPEGs of Samsung's S21/S21 + even with 50 megapixel resolution and a lot of light. 
Especially the 12MP pictures are quite stable across the light levels - the pixel binning pays off here. The hard signal processing contributes a bit to that - edges are sharpened, contrasts are increased. With increasing ISO, the stronger noise reduction leads to a higher artifact level and some structures get lost.

Normal focal length – 2.4/6.3 mm lens 

(35mm equivalent: 52 mm), 13 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

Neo and Pro offer an extra module with a normal focal length and 13MP sensor as the third camera. This solution pays off because the performance of the normal lens is good, but not without weaknesses. 
Compared to wide-angle images, the "normal" JPEGs show a lower level of detail. In high light, the drop in fine detail is slight, the visible noise a bit more noticeable - the more aggressive signal processing compared to wide-angle is more distracting and further reduces the image impression. In lower light (200 lux), Neo and Pro still manage to deliver acceptable images, but then degrade significantly compared to wide-angle. Artifacts increase and alienate fine structures. The standard focal length is no longer convincing in night shots (5 Lux) - the image is poor in detail and looks too artificial. 

 

Super wide angle – 2.2/3.5 mm

(35mm equivalent: 15 mm), 50 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP OR 50 MP

When it comes to the ultra-wide angle, the top model Pro is equipped with the highest-quality technical solution. This camera  performs very well in the test and is one of the top three short focal length modules, along with Huawei's 40MP and 20MP ultra-wide modules. Our score is based on 12MP JPEGs, which are superior to the 50 MP images in total.
If you are not afraid of large image files, you can still switch to the maximum resolution of 50 MP in high light for more finely textured shots. The Oppo (50 MP) comes close to the imaging performance of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro (20 MP) and surpasses the P40 Pro (10 MP). Moreover, the Oppo's signal processing works a bit less aggressively than that of the Huaweis.
The 12MP JPEGs of the ultra-wide-angle are also good in high light, although they are slightly poorer in detail in parts than the 50MP shots. When the light fades, the 12MP JPEGs are the better choice, as is often the case - the performance losses remain quite small. Even at night (5 lux), the ultra-wide angle still remains in the acceptable range - which doesn't happen that often.
