The Find X2 Pro offers three very convincing arguments for photographers: Its three cameras do not rank at the very top but are always close to the best ones. So the whole package offers a reasonable alternative for higher photographic expectations.

 

Wide angle (main camera) – 1.7/6.59 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 25 mm), 48 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 or 48 MP

The technical specifications suggest that the Oppo Find X2 Pro and the OnePlus 8 Pro use the same wide angle module from Sony (IMX689). The image quality of these wide angle cameras is similar, even if the OnePlus delivers slightly better images. In bright light, the user should choose the maximum resolution, because the 48 MP images offer more details and a more cautios modulation. When the light fades, the signal processing kicks in stronger also in 48 MP images – with artefacts and a loss of details as the result. The edge values increase clearly too much, which is true for both the 48 MP as well as the 12 MP images. In this regard, the OnePlus 8 Pro is finetuned a little better. Our assessment is based in the higher overall score of the 12 MP solution.

 

Normal focal length – 1.7/6.59 mm lens 

(35mm equivalent: 50 mm), 48 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

The Oppo also does not have a 2x zoom camera, but instead uses a section of the main camera in order to make images with a focal length of 50 mm (35mm equivalent). But these 12 MP images are also not convincing. In comparison, the photos look poorer in details but modulated harder. Here, the signal processing tries to counterbalance the missing details by crispier edges and higher contrasts – what in turn rather damages the image instead of improving it. It is just not worthwhile. 

 

Tele lens – 3/15 mm

(35mm equivalent: 129 mm), 13 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

With a focal length of 129 mm (35mm equivalent), Oppo gives a competitive message to Huawei – and in bright light, the Find X2 Pro performs very well. There is a little more noise in its images, but on the other hand the resolution is also somewhat higher. Overall, Huawei narrowly keeps the leading position, but the Oppo is closely behind. At night, both phones are no longer a good choice.

 

Super wide angle – 2.2/3.05 mm

(35mm equivalent: 14 mm), 48 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 or 48 MP

Even if the technical data of the super wide angle unit of the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Find X2 Pro are equal, the resulting images look different – and the Find X2 Pro loses this comparison. There are just too few details visible – corresponding to the clearly lower Dead Leaves values – and you just don’t want this. Then again, at bright light, the maximum resolution of the sensor can well be used. All in all, the super wide angle camera is good – but not as good as in the Huawei P40 Pro or in the OnePlus 8 Pro. Our assessment is based on the overall higher score of the 12 MP solution.
