The wide angle camera really flourishes in bright light and still does well at dawn. The super wide angle module works decently, the normal lens only moderately. All in all, taking photos in low light is not a strength oft the Motorola Edge.

 

Wide angle (main camera) – 1.9/5.42 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 26 mm), 64 MP sensor, JPEG with 16 or 64 MP

The wide angle camera can take JPEG images with the maximum resolution of 64 MP or a reduced resolution of 16 MP. For bright light, one should choose the first variant – the images then get a much finer structure and are also modulated pleasantly conservative. With much light, the main camera such scores among the best devices in our test. With decreasing light, the user should change to 16 megapixels, as the quality of the high resolution images deteriorates quicker. Still, in the 16 MP images in decreasing light, the hard signal processing with distinctly emphasized edges is annoying. Our assessment is based on the overall higher point sum of the 16 MP solution. 

 

Normal focal length – 2.4/5.55 mm lens 

(35mm equivalent: 52 mm), 8 MP sensor, JPEG with 8 MP

Instead of a tele lens, the phone features a normal focal length with an 8 MP sensor, which is however often still designated as a tele lens. It is however not imperative to integrate this camera in one’s photographic workflow – because this module cannot match the quality of the main camera, even in bright light. Resolution and Dead Leaves values are much lower in comparison.

Super wide angle – 2.2/1,76 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 13 mm), 16 MP sensor, JPEG with 16 MP

The super wide angle lens does a much better job, but its image is still not on the same level as the main camera. In bright light, the performance is proper – but even here, artefacts can be seen. Motorola does too much processing of the edges. If the light decreases, the images are still tolerable. But when it gets really dark, the results are too dark and lack too much detail.
